Pon de Replay

The latest updates have now been made public, which includes the release of the playlist game mode. There's currently only a single dance routine available, but I have plans to add several more in the future. The idea here fairly simple: run the playlist scene, mute the in-game music, and then accompany it with your preferred playlist. I find that Britney Spears, Lady Ga Ga, and similar music works best, and on occasion the animations will seemingly sync up with the music in a happy coincidence.

One of the final steps for playlist mode involved going through and improving the cloth physics for several hairstyles. These are far from final, as I am patiently waiting for version 2.0 of the asset package being used. These improvements should fix a few of the previous issues, but there's still some instances in which the hair will clip through the waifu's body, namely around the neck and clavicle. You may find performance to a bit of an issue in this new mode, which is caused by the fact that I am essentially faking the lighting setup using multiple directional lights alongside multiple spotlights; this creates a fair amount of overhead and is due entirely to the limitations of the current shader I am using. Performance for playlist and all other modes will be boosted a fairly significant amount once the new shader update is ready to publish, but for now I've found that turning down the shadow settings via the main menu helps enough to maintain vsync.

Funny thing is that the scene which now exists as playlist mode was the first work I'd ever done on this project and is what led me to commit to creating this game. I'd been experimenting with cloth physics and the character models which represent the waifus and decided to create a music video that ran in realtime; everything that has been done since is a direct extension of that first project.

There's also been some new options added for the dressing room, including a running makeup face detail as well as several bracelets. I'll be continuing to make adjustments to clothing items to fix clipping issues that currently exist, mainly with bottoms when the waifu bends over at the waist. For now it's time to focus on sandbox mode again in an effort to get that prepped for release as well.
